Day 3: Me vs. Birthday Cake

Hey team! How we doin'? Staying strong? Have any struggles or temptations? I'd like to start by saying that I went to the gym this morning. Hooray! However, there was a woman in our class that turned 90 today, so someone brought cake for her after class... dun dun duuuuuuuuunn! I'm pleased to say that even when a piece was forced upon me, I STILL didn't eat it! Not even a lick! Ok, maybe I licked a little of the icing, but it was only 1 little lick. Anyways, my point is... The main reason I didn't eat it is because I'm a horrible liar and I wouldn't have been able to lie to you guys. I'm trying to be a positive role model, see? And I'm also tired of looking like a busted can of biscuits.

Soooo, I've done my workout, denied myself cake, AND took the dogs to the dog park. Success! I'm about to sit down to a healthy lunch, then clean the house down to the base boards. Chase's mom and sisters are flying in tomorrow. I'm so so so excited to see them, but this is potentially a recipe for diet disaster. We have family coming in AND it's a holiday weekend?! Maybe I'll give myself a shock collar and press the button every time I get near the hot dogs and chips. The workouts will be a struggle too. I might have to get up an hour earlier (gasp) to get my fitness on. Normally I'd say, "well, I can be off my diet just while they're here, and pick back up when they leave". But I know myself well enough to know I wouldn't pick right back up when they left, and then I'd be back where I started. Think skinny, think skinny, think skinny.

How are y'all gonna stay motivated this weekend? Any plans? Shock collars? Fill yourself up with water before each meal? Good old fashioned will power? Share!

  1. Milk is a wonderful filler... a glass of milk and you won't have room for anything else for a few hours.

I did have a pie temptation, TWO of them, and resisted. VERY proud of myself. Pie is my weakness. I went grocery shopping (had a VERY specific list in mind), had to enter into the bakery isle for flour (I SWEAR!!) saw a box of Will-Be-Done-In-15-Minutes Cheesecake. I put it in my basket and went on with my shopping, day dreaming about eating it when I get home. But, on my way to the check-out I started thinking about you all... I put it back. Then, CoCo's is RIGHT OUTSIDE the market and started thinking about some Coconut Creme... mmmmm... almost turned in: thought about you all and managed to drive past!! Go Me!! And... Down to 225... 5 pounds gone :-) Took all the dogs for a walk today (I board dogs... so there are eleven in the house right now, three being mine) which takes me a good three hours... Was a good day!

  2. This weekend, I'm gonna stick to the fruits that are offered, and I'm probably gonna be the ones bringing them. I love me some fruit! Plus it's an awesome thing when you can get everyone eating it. I am kinda wary of the cakes though because I KNOW that someone is gonna bring them and I'm gonna have to shock my family by refusing cake... But, it will help me to my ultimate goal, which is to avoid diabetes and such when I'm older by changing my diet for the better! Today was good though, because I am seeing myself only eat what is necessary and not cleaning my plate after I'm full already.

  3. Awesome, y'all! I'm so proud. I feel like we're part of a revolution. Lol. Kali, That's amazing. If I went far enough to put anything like that in my grocery cart, I would be done for. And Coco's is the devil! It's so funny how good we feel when we say no to the foods we think will make us feel good. You'd think we'd learn, haha. And a 3-hour walk is awesome! You go girl!

Renee, fruit is an awesome alternative to sweets. They're sweet enough themselves, so it's not like you're missing much :) Eating only what's necessary is a challenge for me, too. If it's in front of me, I'll eat it. That's another thing I need to get down-pat. Food isn't going to disappear, so I need to quit eating like it's my last meal. Stay strong!

  4. In regards to what you said to Renee - I think that we are conditioned to eat that way. I can't even tell you how many times my Mom told me to clean my plate by using the "There are starving children in Ethiopia" comment - so now, I feel like I have to finish my plate!

Soooo.... what I have been doing is using a smaller plate. Just a salad plate and putting what I want on it - and NOT getting seconds. I've found that it's enough to satisfy me, but not stuff me.

  5. Jay, that's definitely something I need to do. Our plates at the house are like 12 inches x 12 inches. We end up eating enough for a family of 4. Next on my shopping list: salad plates :)

  6. That's so true, Evan. I think that's a test of commitment, too. If you keep the things that tempt you "just in case", then you're not really committed to the diet.

And I'm much too lazy to drive somewhere for a snack :)
